What we collect, and only when needed

If you buy the deck

To ship a physical object we need your name, email, address, city, postcode and country, plus any note you write. We keep them with the order details.

If you download the print-and-play PDFs

To send you the link to the free PDFs we need your email address. We keep it with the language, the date of the request and the number of downloads, so the link works for seven days and cannot be abused.

If you play

During a game your name and chosen colour pass through our server to reach the other players. We do not store them: they stay in memory for the life of the room and are gone when the game ends. You do not need an account to play.

At the end of a game each player sees a playful guess at their "musical age", based on the songs they got right in that game. It is worked out on your device: each song's year and who guessed it pass through our server with the rest of the game, without being stored. The estimate is not kept, builds no profile and does not reach advertisers, because the ad frame is removed before it appears. The exception is someone who chooses to create an account, as explained below.

If you create an account

The account is optional. On the site you can create it with an email and password: the email is for signing in and for sending you confirmation and recovery codes, not for the newsletter. We store only a scrambled fingerprint of the password, never the text, and a code lasts 15 minutes at most. People with active premium see no ads on the site or in the game: a technical cookie across guessthesong.it, valid while the premium lasts, remembers this without saying who you are. If you donate and ask for premium, we keep the email you give us only until we have checked the donation.

You can also create it with Google, on the site or in the Android app. Google gives us an identifier, your name, your email and the address of your profile photo: they are used only to sign you in and show you your page. The photo stays on Google's servers; we save only its address. Signing in does not subscribe you to the newsletter. A technical cookie valid for 90 days, or in the app a code kept on the phone for the same time, keeps you signed in. On the site, Google's script loads only when you tick the box to sign in.

For each game finished while signed in we save the date, your place, points, number of players, estimated musical age and songs guessed per decade, plus the name and colour you used in the game, to offer them again. We do not save other players' names. We process this to provide the service you asked for.

Your email, photo and history appear only on the account page and in the app, which have no ads, and we do not give them to advertisers. On the game screens, which carry ads if you accepted them, our server sends only the game name and colour you chose, and the fact that you are signed in.

We keep this data until you delete the account. The "Delete account" button immediately erases the account and all its history.

If you just visit

We keep a count of page views. It is a total per day and per page: no IP address, no identifier, nothing that leads back to you. That is why we do not ask consent for it — it is not personal data.

The home page, the guides, the demo, the PDF page and the final screen of the browser game show Google AdSense ads: they are what keeps the game free. Until you answer the banner, and if you reject, Google only shows non-personalised ads and stores no advertising cookies on your device. If you accept, Google may use cookies to personalise and measure ads. The shop and the download pages carry no ads. How Google uses this data is explained at policies.google.com.

The home page, the guides, the demo, the PDF page and the final screen of the browser game also show HilltopAds ads, but only if you accept them in the banner. Reject them and their code is not loaded.

We also use Google Analytics, but only if you accept it in the banner. Reject it and it stores no cookies and nothing on the site is lost. You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie" button at the bottom of the pages.

What stays on your device

The shop basket lives in your browser's local storage, not on our servers. Clear your site data and it is gone.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to access, correct, delete, restrict, port or object to the processing of your data. Write to shop@guessthesong.it and we answer within thirty days.

If you believe we are getting it wrong you can complain to the Italian data protection authority or to the authority where you live.

Children

The game suits everyone, but the shop is not aimed at people under sixteen; we do not knowingly collect minors' data for sales. To create an account you must be at least fourteen, which you declare when signing in. Playing without an account has no age limit.

Changes

If how we handle data changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
